Charity Description:

Buya.org is an online marketplace for heartfelt causes supplied by passionate, grassroots, charitable organizations. Buya.org makes it easy for individual donors to meet specific needs of the poor, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged by utilizing on-line technologies to present heartfelt opportunities of small, highly effective, grassroots, charitable organizations.

Buya.org's also works to bring food, water and education to the poor of Haiti
through Buya.org's mission "Healing Haiti".

Our vision is to build a place where caring people can find specific opportunities to make a visible difference serving the poor, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged.

Buya.org redefines giving where the giver is truly receiving when they give. By knowing where and how their money is being used and receiving proof of the impact they've made through our Proof of Impact statement the giver truly receives something more than they gave. We call this 360º giving.

We believe we can open up new sources of donations, create new opportunities to serve the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged, and accelerate giving through the buya.org website.

Buya.org is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) charity as recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as of October 26, 2006, the effective date of exemption.

Are my purchases on buya.org tax deductible?

As of October 26, 2006, the effective date of our exemption, all purchases and donations made through buya.org are tax deductible to the person who paid for the purchase or made the donation under section 170, 2055, 2106, or 2522 of the Internal Revenue Service tax code.

How much does Buya.org charge?

Buya.org receives 0% of each purchase. We provide this service at no cost. Helping small grassroots charities is part of our mission. The only cost to the charity is the reimbursement of the 3% credit card transaction fee that we are charged by the Sage Payment Solutions for processing the credit card transaction.

If I buy something on Buya.org, does it raise the overhead of the charity?

No. It actually lowers it. When a charity lists their causes on buya.org there is no costs until a purchase is made. Once purchased, the charity receives 97% of the purchase price. The other 3% goes to reimburse the credit card transaction fees. Buya.org does not receive any of the proceeds. By listing their causes on buya.org, it only cost the charity 3% credit card fees to raise these funds, not the usual 5% to 10% or more they normally spend for fund raising. And, if you pay by check, 100% of the purchase price is paid to the charity. In that case, they have reduced their fund raising cost to zero for that purchase.

How is Buya.org supported?

Buya.org is 100% funded by private donations. No part of the money raised by selling causes on this website is used to fund buya.org. If you see buya.org as a great way to market small grassroots charities and an effective way to help the poor, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged and would like to help, donations can be sent to:

How do I know where my money is going and how it is used?

At buya.org your money goes toward the cause that you select. That is our commitment and is part of our mission, to make sure the donors know exactly where their money is going and how it is used. On orders greater than $100, a Proof of Impact statement is sent to you after we implement your purchase in the field. If for any reason we can not complete the purchase you chose, we will contact you and let you select another cause that moves your heart. We are sorry, but laws governing 501(c)3 charities make all donations or purchases non-refundable.

What is “Proof of Impact” ?

On purchases over $100, buya.org asks charities to furnish an impact statement from the person or community that receives your purchase. The Proof of Impact statement documents the impact your purchase has on their life. We also ask for a photo whenever possible. In turn, we then forward the Proof of Impact statement back to you.  We want giving to be more than just writing a check. By receiving a Proof of Impact, we hope that you feel a heartfelt thank you that moves you and brings you back.

Will I receive a "Proof of Impact" on every purchase?

Our goal is to send a Proof of Impact on every purchase greater than $100. However some of our charities are located in remote villages in third world countries where electricity, internet and even mail are often down or unavailable so it might not always be possible. If you purchase multiples of the same products, (ie: onion seed or meals for emergency food relief) we will only send one Proof of Impact. Also, if you partially fund a larger item, a Proof of Impact may not be available until the entire item is funded. As stated earlier, we see great value in completing the 360 degree giving cycle so we will work very hard and do everything possible to make sure a Proof of Impact is sent.
